Methods for Effective Removal of Carpenter Bees


The resemblance between Carpenter bees and bumble bees is that both their bodies look alike and their color too. Unlike bees, carpenter bees aren’t aggressive; the queen bee if provoked will sting you. These creatures love the picnic environment or gardens; they make holes into wood like tunnels and set up their nests in it. They mostly make their home in dead wood, timber or bamboo. 

Methods of removing carpenter bees:

1    Make use of pesticides: powders are effective pesticides to Control Carpenter Bees. You could use products like Carbaryl dust and boric acid, they are very helpful and effective

2   Spray the burrows and holes with petrol: a very commonly tried and tested way of removing theses bees is to spray diesel or petrol into their burrows. Petrol is flammable be careful as to where you put it as it could damage the structure you pour it on but this method will definitely kill them.

  • Be careful and do not inhale the petrol fumes or let it get on your skin. Wear a durable thick mask like an  N-95, gloves and goggles to protect yourself
  • If you decide to use a spray bottle to spread the petrol, make sure to label the bottle so that you don’t end up using the bottle ever again on anything else around your house like plants. 
3.     Make lots of noise: carpenter bees are sensitive to noise, which means they are sensitive to vibrations too. Set up a sound system or boom box wherever the tunnels are dug, this will definitely force them to leave. This method is so much more safe and less of a hassle. 

4.     Contact the pest control service: if after all our efforts the carpenter bees still haven’t left your dwelling then it’s time for you to seek professional help. Call the pest control service, they are professionals and will make sure your work is done. 

5.     Stuff the tunnels or holes with steel wool: these creatures even though stubborn can’t dig through steel wool. After they leave the nest act fast and apply chalk or wood putty to seal the hole completely and paint the wall. 

6.     Spray the affected areas with citrus or tea tree oil: Find a citrus spray only designed for carpenter bee removal or just make it yourself by cutting and boiling the skin of orange, lime, lemon or grapefruit in a shallow pot filled with water. Fill a spray bottle with this liquid and squeeze in the juice of the citrus.
  •  Spray the carpenter bee burrows with this citrus spray.
  •  Almond oil or essence is also a good alternative to the citrus spray.
7. Seal the burrows: if you aren’t willing to kill these bees then you can also seal their burrows after the larva, which have recently turned into carpenter bees leave their nests. Seal the burrows with asphalt or wood filler. Paint the surface to make sure they don’t try to enter the burrows again.
